Remains of a sunken garden at one of the Palatine hill palaces. There would have been a fountain in the center with water contained by the surrounding short walls. Note the heaped concrete placed atop the brick wall in the foreground. This was done during Mussolini's time in power as a means of preventing further degradation of the ruins.
